Even though he spends 99 percent of his time playing football and doensn't actually provide them any on-field, tangible benefits, the Rangers really like Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Like, a lot.
So much so that, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Texas added him to their Triple-A roster in order to avoid Wilson being taken by another team in the upcoming Rule 5 Draft.

Rangers put Russell Wilson on Triple-A roster

In December of 2013 the Rangers took Wilson with one of their own Rule-5 selections, surprising a few people because, you know, he doesn't actually play baseball.
But the selection drew plenty of attention and positive publicity for the franchise. Wilson -- a budding superstar at the time who won a Super Bowl just a few months later -- played along quite well.
He talked about attending Rangers Spring Training and his Rangers jersey was one of the top-selling online jerseys in March of 2013.
Wilson played baseball in college at NC State and was in the Rockies farm system attempting to become a professional baseball player before this whole "take the NFL world by storm" thing started working out for him.
In short, Wilson's a fantastic marketing ploy with baseball talent to boot. Maybe this is part of a larger publicity stunt, but it's well worth it from Texas' standpoint.
