The Twins have reached an agreement for a contract extension with Phil Hughes that is worth $42 million over three years. The club has not confirmed the deal.
The New York Daily News was the first to report the extension on Monday morning. In Hughes' first year with Minnesota, the right-hander went 16-10 with a 3.52 ERA.

He had a Major League-best 0.7 walks per nine innings last season and an all-time Major League-best 11.63 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Hughes, 28, signed as a free agent with Minnesota in December of last year, and he is set to make $8 million each of the next two seasons. The extension will take him through 2019.
