SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy was hospitalized on Thursday and underwent a procedure to insert two stents after he experienced heart discomfort, according to a statement released by the team.
Bochy, who underwent a physical on Wednesday as part of a pre-Spring Training procedure, supervised Thursday's opening workout for pitchers and catchers. He seemed relaxed when he met with reporters after the workout and even joked about his low ranking in a pair of articles rating Major League managers according to their looks.

Soon afterward he apparently reported feeling ill. According to one Giants staffer, Bochy then was examined by head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner and team physician Dr. Robert Murray.
Bochy was subsequently admitted to Scottsdale Healthcare Medical Center, which is across the street from the Scottsdale Stadium complex where the Giants train.
Per the statement, thr 59-year-old Bochy is resting comfortably and will be released on Friday. A club spokesman said that Bochy is not expected to be in uniform for Friday's workout.
Bochy, who became the Giants' manager in 2007, quit using smokeless tobacco a few years later.
