The Jonathan Papelbon era is over in Philadelphia. And no one seems too upset about that, including the media.
Papelbon, who signed a four-year, $50 million contract with the Phillies prior to the 2012 season, stopped just short of begging for a trade the past couple of years as Philly fell from a perennial NL East power to an aging last-place squad.
On Tuesday, Papelbon got his wish: He was dealt to the first-place Washington Nationals, with whom he will take over the ninth-inning duties from incumbent closer Drew Storen.
It won't be much of an adjustment --€“ at least not as much as the instantly-infamous adjustment pictured on the Philadelphia Daily News' back page Wednesday --€“ because Papelbon has plenty of pennant-race experience (and a 1.00 career postseason ERA) from his days with the Boston Red Sox.
