The 9-year-old bat boy of an amateur Kansas baseball team who was hit in the head with a bat has died a day after the tragic accident.
The Liberal Bee Jays announced early Monday morning that Kaiser Carlile succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital, where he arrived in critical condition Saturday night after a getting hit in the head by a batter practicing swings in the on-deck circle during a National Baseball Congress game against the San Diego Waves.
"With the permission of the family, and with much sorrow and a very broken heart, I regretfully inform everyone that Kaiser Carlile passed away earlier this evening," the team wrote in statement on Facebook.
"Please keep his family and our team in your thoughts and prayers."
Carlile, described as a Bee Jays superfan, had been with the team throughout the summer as its only bat boy.

"He was a part of the team," club president Nathan McCaffrey told CNN.
McCaffrey was at Saturday's game and heard the sound of the bat hitting Carlile’s helmet.
"Just to see him fall, that's what crushes you," he said.
The entire town of Liberal, population just over 20,000, rallied behind the young boy, with mayor Joe Denover among those sending messages of support.
"Kaiser, we love you, are praying for you and cheering for you."
