The Miami Marlins appear to be simply a bottom-line business to owner Jeffrey Loria.
Which is apparently why the team is suing some of their season-ticket holders, luxury suite owners and vendors who have decided not to renew their deals at Marlins Park, according to the Miami New Times:
"The Marlins have sued at least nine season ticketholders and luxury suite owners since 2013. That virtually never happens in sports, experts say. Two stadium vendors are also locked in court battles with the team, both alleging the Marlins promised robust crowds and then didn't deliver."

Marlins are reportedly suing some of their season ticket holders and vendors

One of the subjects detailed in the New Times story is Mickey Axelband. A 59-year-old diehard Marlins fan who had been a season-ticket holder since the team's inception in 1993 until 2012, Axelband attended thousands of Marlins games and stuck with the team through the highs and the lows for two decades, and was excited when the team moved from Dolphins Stadium to their new Little Havana digs.
When the new Marlins Park opened in 2011, Axelband signed a two-year contract for a $24,000 package, which included a number of perks like first-floor parking, a private entrance and a lounge with pre- and postgame buffets, among other things. However, the crowds failed to meet expectations and halfway through the season the team eliminated all of those season-ticket holder perks to cut costs. So Axelband canceled his ticket package before the 2012 season. Last year, Axelband got notice that the Marlins were suing him for canceling his two-year agreement prematurely.
The New Times is reporting that in addition to Axelbrand, the Miami team went after a number of other fans and companies who entered similar two-year agreements, but canceled after one disappointing season at Marlins Park. One vendor of a small local pizza chain terminated his agreement to sell in Marlins Park after the lack of crowds killed his business and forced him to declare bankruptcy.
The Marlins declined comment to the New Times for their story.
