MIAMI -- Mets left-handed starter Steven Matz will undergo season-ending surgery next week at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York to remove a bone spur from his left elbow, the team announced before Tuesday's game against the Marlins. 
The club expects Matz to be healthy by Spring Training 2017.Matz, 25, finishes his rookie season 9-8 with a 3.40 ERA. He pitched through the bone spur for most of this season, before a left shoulder impingement landed him on the disabled list in mid-August. With Matz unlikely to contribute to the Mets in October, the club decided this week to shut him down.
