SEATTLE -- Jean Segura signed a five-year contract extension with the Mariners on Wednesday, a deal that runs from 2018-22 seasons and includes a club option for '23, keeping the standout shortstop with Seattle beyond the end of his arbitration-eligibility.
The agreement is worth $70 million and includes a no-trade clause, sources told MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi. The club did not reveal the terms in announcing the signing.

"Over the past two seasons, Jean has been one of the premier offensive players in baseball," executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said. "His combination of average, power and speed is extremely difficult to find, especially as a top-of-the-lineup hitter at a key defensive position like shortstop. We are all quite excited about having him here with the Mariners and believe he is a key ingredient in our ongoing effort to build a championship-level roster."
Segura, who leads the American League in hitting with a .341 average, is currently on the 10-day disabled list with a high-ankle sprain. Manager Scott Servais said Tuesday he's optimistic Segura can return soon, though he's expected to miss at least several more weeks.
The Mariners obtained the 27-year-old from the D-backs during the offseason as part of a five-player deal that also brought outfielder Mitch Haniger and lefty reliever Zac Curtis to Seattle for right-hander Taijuan Walker and shortstop Ketel Marte.
Seattle avoided arbitration with Segura in January, agreeing to a one-year deal worth $6.2 million. Segura earned $2.6 million in 2016, the first year he was arbitration-eligible.
The Mariners also have long-term deals in place with Robinson Cano through 2023, Kyle Seager through '21, Felix Hernandez through '19 and Nelson Cruz through next season.
Segura was a National League All-Star for Milwaukee in 2013 and led the NL in hits last year in his lone season with the D-backs.
