LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers All-Star shortstop Corey Seager was removed from the 25-man roster vs. the Cubs for the National League Championship Series presented by Camping World because of a back injury that has turned out worse than previously thought.
Seager suffered a back injury on Monday night in Game 3 of the NL Division Series presented by T-Mobile. It happened on a first-inning slide into second base, but he played the entire game.

Dodgers leave injured Corey Seager off NLCS roster

He missed workouts on Thursday and Friday, but manager Dave Roberts said the injury was muscular and he was very optimistic that Seager would be able to play in the series. In addition to Seager, the Dodgers dropped reliever Pedro Baez from the NLDS roster, adding infielder Charlie Culberson and outfielder Joc Pederson.
With Seager out, the Dodgers can use Culberson at short or move outfielders Chris Taylor or Enrique Hernandez to short, or move second baseman Logan Forsythe to short and start Chase Utley at second base.
The addition of Pederson gives the club the flexibility to move one of the outfielders to the infield.
The Dodgers will carry 11 pitchers, three catchers, five infielders and six outfielders.
As they did in the NLDS, the Dodgers kept third catcher Kyle Farmer, allowing for the use of Austin Barnesor Yasmani Grandal as a pinch-hitter while still having coverage behind the plate. Barnes is expected to start most of the games after going 4-for-8 with a home run in the NLDS.
Roster changes can be made for the World Series, if the Dodgers advance.
