Aaron Judge has been activated off the 10-day disabled list, but he won't be used as a hitter yet, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on Friday. The club will use Judge in the field and as a pinch-runner while they take an additional few days to determine how to get Judge simulated at-bats, which will take place before he sees in-game at-bats.
The Yankees opted to activate the runner-up for the 2017 American League MVP Award rather than have him complete a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the International League playoffs.
Judge has been out since July 26 with a right wrist fracture that he sustained after being hit by a pitch by Royals pitcher Jakob Junis. The slugging right fielder was initially expected to miss only three weeks, though he has now been out for roughly seven weeks.Judge, who is hitting .285/.398/.548 with 26 homers and 61 RBIs, took his first batting practice since the injury earlier this week in Minnesota and made a few one-hop throws to third base and home plate from right field.
