During this stretch drive to 3000 hits there have been nothing but negative comments from baseball pundits and media blowhards. Telling all of us that Jeter is overrated and finished, the Yankees are better off without him. Then Derek Jeter goes out without responding to his critics with words, he responds the way he always does, with actions. Jeter got his 3000 hit on a home run to left, only the second player ever to get there 3000 hit by home run. But he doesn't stop there, Jeter continues to go 5 for 5 including the game winning hit in the bottom of the 8th.  This should come as no surprise as Jeter is known for his clutch performances, coming through on the biggest stage when the spotlight is the brightest. Jeter becomes the 4th youngest player to reach 3000 hits in baseball history and did it in a way that only he could. Expect Jeter to go on a tear after the All Star break now that all the stress  of this chase for 3000 is over. Jeter is a true professional who has handled himself with class on and off the field for the most recognized team in sports and has never been implicated with steroids or any bad scandal that we see so many stars fall victim to in the sports world.  He shows up everyday, does his job without flash or made for tv decisions to brag about his talents, he just wins and does so with grace and style. Baseball looks forward to your enshrinement into Cooperstown knowing that it was all done the right way. Congratulations Derek Jeter on an amazing accomplishment, once again you have shut up all your critics (for now at least).
