PHOENIX -- The Rockies came out on the winning end of a pitchers' duel at Chase Field on Saturday night, beating the D-backs, 2-0, in the second game of the series.
Rookie Tyler Matzek pitched arguably the best game of his short career, giving up only three hits over his seven innings of work. Matzek struck out four and walked only three. He threw a career-high 103 pitches -- reaching 100 pitches for the first time -- and he made them count.

Matzek wins duel as Rockies blank D-backs

Matzek tied his career high with seven innings pitched and matched his career low in a start with only three hits allowed.
The Rockies got their first run of the game in the second inning when Matt McBride hit a 74-mph curveball from D-backs starter Vidal Nuno into the left-field stands.
From that point on, Nuno buckled down, retiring the next 20 batters he faced. He finished the game with eight innings pitched, two hits allowed and the home run as the sole blemish.
Fortunately for the Rockies, Matzek was up to the task.
The left-hander didn't allow a runner to get past second base all game. Two of the D-backs' hits came with two outs and no one on, and the third -- a single from Cliff Pennington -- was quickly erased with a double play.
The Rockies turned to their bullpen in the eighth inning, as Brooks Brown replaced Matzek.
Brown, Christian Friedrich, Adam Ottavino and closer LaTroy Hawkins finished the game for the Rockies, pitching a combined two scoreless innings to seal the victory.
Charlie Blackmon hit a homer in the ninth to give the Rockies some insurance.
