As expected, the Brewers have committed to starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo for another season and ended Rickie Weeks' long tenure with the club.
The team picked up Gallardo's $13 million club option for 2015 -- he can be a free agent thereafter -- and declined on its option on Weeks' contract. The second baseman was drafted by the Brewers in the first round (second overall) of the 2003 Draft and had been a mainstay with the club since 2005.

Gallardo, 28, made 32 starts for the Brewers this season, going 8-11 with a 3.51 ERA. He threw 192 1/3 innings, and has thrown at least 180 innings in every season since 2009.
Weeks, who hit .274 with eight homers and 29 RBIs in 121 games this season, also had an automatic option based on plate appearances that he did not reach, in addition to the club option.
He finished sixth in the National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2005 and was an All-Star in 2011.
