The Kansas City Royals are losing one of their homegrown players just weeks after advancing to the postseason for the first time in 29 years.
Billy Butler, 28, who played seven seasons with the Royals, has agreed to a three-year, $30 million contract with the Oakland A's, sources tell FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

The Royals had paid Butler a $1 million buyout, declining to exercise his $12.5 million contract option for next season, making Butler a free agent.
Butler, who served as both a first baseman (37 games) and designated hitter (108 games) this season, hit .271 with 66 RBI and nine home runs. He hit .262 with eight RBI over 13 games in the postseason.
The Royals drafted Butler in 2004 with the 17th overall pick. He ranks eighth in franchise history with 1,166 games played as a Royal, and he's ranked seventh with 1,273 hits and sixth with 628 RBI. He is a career .295 hitter.
However, his production has sagged in recent years, and he finished with a career-worst .702 OPS in 2014.
