The Royals have agreed to a one-year contract extension with manager Ned Yost, whose deal now runs through the 2016 season.
Yost, who took over as Kansas City skipper on May 13, 2010, helped lead the Royals to the World Series last season in their first playoff appearance in 29 years. In doing so, he also became the first manager in Major League history to win his first eight postseason games.

The 89 wins last year were also the most by a Royals club since the team won 92 in 1989.
Yost has spent 11 seasons as a Major League manager, compiling an 830-904 record (his win total is tied for 73rd all-time with Fred Hutchinson and ranks seventh among active big league managers).
He is the longest tenured manager in club history and third on the Royals' all-time wins list with a 373-402 record. He trails just Dick Howser (404) and Whitey Herzog (410) in career wins with the Royals.
