The Miami Marlins announced the signing of veteran outfielder Reed Johnson to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training on Tuesday afternoon.
Johnson, who has spent 12 seasons in the big leagues, played with the Marlins in 2014. As the fourth outfielder, he batted .235 with 15 doubles, two home runs and 25 RBI in 113 games. In a pinch-hitting role, Johnson hit .239 (16 for 67) with three doubles, a homer and 12 RBI. He appeared at all three outfield spots.
During the 2013 offseason, Johnson also signed a minor-league contract with the organization and made the Opening Day roster as a non-roster invitee after batting .405 in spring training.

He provided a veteran presence in the clubhouse along with Casey McGehee, Jeff Mathis, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jeff Baker. Following the season, the 38-year-old elected for free agency but didn't sign with a club.
Over 12 major-league seasons, Johnson is a .280 hitter with 214 doubles, 23 triples, 65 homers and 405 RBI in 1,303 games with the Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers and Marlins.
Miami intends to use future Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki as the fourth outfielder. Infielders Donovan Solano and Jeff Baker, as well as backup catcher Jeff Mathis, will likely win the other bench spots, leaving one up for grabs. Those vying for it will be infielders Derek Dietrich, Justin Bour and Miguel Rojas. Non-roster invitee Jordany Valdespin is another option.
There are now 66 players headed to major-league camp. Pitchers and catchers report Friday, with the first full-squad workout set for Feb. 24.
