SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Rangers have formally picked up third baseman Adrian Beltre's contract. Beltre does not have to worry about getting 586 plate appearances this season to be assured of returning to the Rangers in 2016."It was really a no-brainer for us," general manager Jon Daniels said. "He is one of the best players in the game, a team leader and a future Hall of Famer. We didn't want it to be a story this season."
Beltre signed a six-year, $96 million contract with the Rangers before the 2011 season. 
The Rangers had the right to void the last year of the contract if Beltre failed to get 1,200 plate appearances in 2014-15 or 600 in 2015. He had 614 last season.The Rangers essentially forfeited that right to ensure Beltre will be back. Daniels has talked about Beltre spending the rest of his career with the Rangers but has not spoken to agent Scott Boras about an extension beyond 2016."I think there is no rush at this point," Daniels said. "We want him to be here, he wants to be here."
