The Brewers made sure manager Ron Roenicke would stick around a bit longer on Thursday, when they exercised his contractual option for the 2016 season. Roenicke, who has managed Milwaukee to three winning campaigns in four seasons, is coming off an 82-80 campaign with the Brewers in 2014.
Roenicke, a former first-round Draft pick who played more than 500 games in the Major Leagues, took over the Brewers job prior to the 2011 campaign. Milwaukee won 96 games and the National League Central title that season before losing to the Cardinals in six games in the NL Championship Series.

Roenicke, 58 , had never managed in the Majors prior to taking the Milwaukee job. The Brewers went 83-79 in 2012 and then slipped to 74-88 in Roenicke's third season at the helm. Last year, Milwaukee held a 53-43 record at the All-Star break but fell to 29-37 in the second half.
Milwaukee general manager Doug Melvin is working through the final year of his contract. He has been with the Brewers since 2002, but there is no indication whether Milwaukee will extend his contract.
