The Mets wore NYPD caps during batting practice Tuesday to honor fallen police officer Brian Moore, the Massapequa native who died Monday after being shot Saturday in Queens.
Moore, who was 25, worked at Queens' 105th Precinct, which is less than 10 miles from Citi Field.
The Mets also had a moment of silence before Tuesday's game and flew the stadium's flags at half-mast. An emotional manager Terry Collins explained why the Mets decided to wear the caps.

"We are honoring the true heroes -- the soldiers, the police, the fire department -- who keep us all safe and secure . . . It's what we think's important and certainly honoring Officer Moore is important today," Collins said. "We'll wear them and wear them with pride and hopefully his family understands -- although it's hard to understand what they're going through -- that we're there for them."
