The Mets have designated outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis for assignment, the team announced on Tuesday. The move made room for outfielder Darrell Ceciliani, who was promoted from Triple A Las Vegas ahead of New York's game against the Cardinals on Tuesday. Nieuwenhuis, a fourth-year pro, has batted 3-for-38 (.079) this season, striking out 17 times.
