The Marlins continue to tear things down and the Cubs are getting some much needed pitching. The Cubbies have acquired veteran righty Dan Haren from the Marlins, reports Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun Times. Other details of the trade are unknown at this point.
Haren, 34, will be a free agent after the season. He has a 3.42 ERA (112 ERA+) and a 1.09 WHIP in 21 starts and 129 innings this year. It has been a fine bounceback season for the veteran, who had a 4.33 ERA (86 ERA+) in 532 1/3 innings from 2012-14.

The Cubs had been seeking rotation depth before the trade deadline. Not necessarily a high-end ace-caliber pitcher -- though they certainly would have taken one had the price been right -- but someone to eat innings near the back of the rotation. Haren can definitely do that.
Chicago comes into Friday at 54-47, two games back of a wild-card spot. The Marlins are 42-60 and 14 1/2 games out of the wild-card race. Haren is the latest veteran Miami has traded away this summer.
