The Giants have acquired outfielder Marlon Byrd from the Reds in exchange for Double-A right-hander Stephen Johnson.
Byrd was hitting .237/.286/.448 for Cincinnati this season. Along with Byrd, the Giants received cash from the Reds, presumably to offset the costs of Byrd's contract.
Byrd will make $8 million this year and has a vesting option for $8 million next season.

Reds trade Marlon Byrd to Giants

If Byrd does not receive 550 plate appearances this season, which appears unlikely, that vesting option will become a team option. He has 388 plate appearances thus far.
The Giants, who were in search of an outfielder with Angel Pagan and Hunter Pence on the disabled list, will be the ninth team that Byrd has played for in his 14-year Major League career. He's a career .275 hitter with 150 home runs.
The 24-year-old Johnson, who is not ranked among the Giants' top 30 prospects by MLB.com, is 3-0 with a 3.41 ERA in 44 appearances for Double-A Richmond this season.
