The Tigers acquired outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Braves in exchange for left-hander Ian Krol and pitching prospect Gabe Speier, it was announced on Friday.
Maybin, 28, is a career .251 hitter over nine seasons in the Major Leagues. He was drafted by the Tigers with the 10th overall pick in the 2005 Draft and debuted with the club in '07. The veteran also played for the Marlins and Padres before being dealt to the Braves in April.

"Cameron Maybin is a good outfielder with plenty of experience in center field," Tigers executive vice president of baseball operations and general manager Al Avila said in a statement. "He is coming off of a solid offensive season in 2015 and brings speed and athleticism to our club. [Manager] Brad Ausmus and the coaching staff will determine Cameron's role during Spring Training."
In his lone season with the Braves this year, Maybin hit .267 with 65 runs scored, 18 doubles, two triples, 10 homers and 59 RBIs over 141 games. He finished 10th in the National League with 23 stolen bases.
Krol, 24, split time last season between the Tigers and Triple-A Toledo. In 33 games with Detroit, the lefty went 2-3 with a 5.79 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 28 innings.
Speier, 20, is also left-handed. He pitched in 33 games with Class A West Michigan in 2015 and went 4-2 with a 2.86 ERA and 36 strikeouts over 44 innings.
