Josh Hamilton's baseball career is taking another downturn. The Texas Rangersoutfielder, who has yet to play in 2016, will have season-ending surgery on his knee.Hamilton felt discomfort in his left knee during his first rehab assignment April 30. He is scheduled to undergo the procedure June 8.He has had two surgeries on his left knee since Sept. 1 and played in a career-low 50 games after a number of injuries in 2015.Rangers GM Jon Daniels said Hamilton plans to play in 2017. Hamilton, the 2010 AL MVP, turned 35 on Saturday. 
"Physically, he can't play," Daniels said. "He's frustrated."Hamilton's output has diminished drastically since 2012, when he hit a career-high 43 homers with the Rangers. He signed a five-year, $125 million deal with the Angels that offseason but failed to live up to expectations. He has hit a total of 39 homers the previous three seasons."It's been a tough road for Josh," manager Jeff Banister said. "I know he wants to compete, I knows he wants to play, I know he wants to be a part of this and is not going to be able to. ... It's another long road back to play this game."He eventually was dealt back to the Rangers but the Angels were responsible for a majority of the money left on his deal.
