Arizona agreed to a five-year, $24 million contract extension with the 24-year-old on Monday, a source told MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez. The extension also includes two additional option years worth a combined $22 million -- which could take the extension up to seven years and $46 million.
The club has not confirmed the deal.
Five years would take Marte up to his first scheduled year of free agency, 2023, so the option years would potentially cover free-agent years.

Marte came to the D-backs along with Taijuan Walker in the trade that sent Jean SeguraMitch Haniger and Zac Curtis to the Mariners last offseason. Marte played 73 games in his first season in Arizona, hitting .260/.345/.395 with five homers and 18 RBIs. Marte also hit .412 with a home run for the D-backs in the postseason.
Primarily a shortstop for his first three MLB seasons, Marte has been working at second base this spring and is slated to start there when the D-backs open their season on Thursday against the Rockies at Chase Field.
