The Yankees added another veteran pitcher to their starting rotation on Monday, acquiring right-hander Lance Lynn from the Twins in exchange for first baseman Tyler Austin and Minor League right-hander Luis Rijo. The Yankees will pay roughly half of the $4.5 million still owed to Lynn this season, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.Lynn signed with the Twins on a one-year, $12 million deal at the end of this past offseason, but the veteran righty has struggled to a 5.10 ERA over 20 starts to this point. The Yankees acquired left-handed starter J.A. Happ from the Blue Jays last week in an effort to address their rotation, long seen as their biggest hole leading up to Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET non-waiver Trade Deadline.
Austin has been stationed with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since June 15, and he came off the disabled list on July 7. The third-year first baseman slashed .223/.280/.471 with 14 extra-base hits over 132 plate appearances with the Yankees earlier this year. He has been blocked at first base in the Bronx by Greg Bird.Rijo began the year with Rookie-level Pulaski and subsequently rose to Class A Advanced Tampa, then Class A Short Season Staten Island. The right-hander is 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA in seven outings (five starts) across all levels.Earlier on Monday, New York acquired $1.25 million in international signing bonus pool money from the Mariners for right-hander Adam Warren.
