Blue Jays manager John Gibbons will not be back as manager next season, Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com reports, confirming an earlier report by Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, who said Toronto will make an announcement today.
Gibbons managed Toronto for two stints -- once from 2004-08 and again from 2013-18. In 2015, Gibbons led the Blue Jays to their first postseason berth in 22 years. Toronto lost to Kansas City in the American League Championship Series in six games.
In an 89-73 season, he led the club to another playoff berth in '16. Toronto lost to Cleveland in the ALCS in five games.
The Blue Jays entered Wednesday in fourth place in the American League East with a 71-87 record. Gibbons' overall record as manager is 791-787.
