The Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to a two-year contract extension with shortstop Yunel Escobar that will pay him $13 million during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. As the Rays are wont to do, they also tacked on a club option for the 2017 season.Escobar, 31, previously had only a club option for the 2015 season left on his current contract, but this extension has replaced that. 
“Yunel has been a tremendous addition to our infield and was a critical part of our success last year,” said club president Andrew Friedman in a statement. “He brings enthusiasm and energy to our group on a daily basis to go along with his abilities on the field. We are excited to have the opportunity to extend his time in our uniform.”Escobar hit .256/.332/.366 (97 OPS+) with 27 doubles, nine homers and 56 RBI last season for Tampa Bay, his first year with the club after a unceremonious exit from Toronto.Matt Snyder/CBS Sports
