SEATTLE -- Yoenis Cespedes' eighth-inning two-run homer broke open a scoreless game and ensured the A's of a 3-0, series-clinching win over the Mariners at Safeco Field on Sunday afternoon.
Josh Donaldson added to the lead with an opposite-field solo shot off reliever Lucas Luetge in the ninth, his third of the year.
Equally significant was Scott Kazmir's work, though there is concern the lefty may be injured.

Oakland's veteran starter cruised through six scoreless innings on 82 pitches but didn't come out for the seventh. He was seen in the A's dugout holding his forearm and talking with a team trainer and manager Bob Melvin, who sent lefty Fernando Abad out for the seventh.
Kazmir was brilliant in the time he was on the mound, striking out nine and walking none. He offered up just two hits on the day, back-to-back singles to Brad Miller and Robinson Cano with one out in the fourth inning.
Through three starts this year, Kazmir has allowed only three earned runs and 11 hits with four walks and 19 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings.
But Kazmir has been known to be fragile, and the Indians were extra cautious with him last year, his first full season in the Majors since 2010. There was no word out of the A's clubhouse on his status by the time Sunday's game concluded.
The victory is Oakland's sixth in its last seven tries after the club started the year 2-3.
The A's stranded nine runners through the first seven innings before pinch-hitter Jed Lowrie opened up with the eighth with a walk and scored on Cespedes' shot to left field off lefty Charlie Furbush, his second homer of the season.
Mariners starter Chris Young went six innings for Seattle, scattering four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
