SAN DIEGO -- A wild pitch and an error by catcher Wilin Rosario on the same play Monday night paved the way for an unlikely Padres victory against the Rockies.
Trailing 4-3, the Padres loaded the bases with two outs only to see Rockies reliever Rex Brothers miss on a pitch that allowed the tying run to score. But Rosario's throw to Brothers covering the plate skidded past him, allowing the go-ahead run to score.
Final score: Padres 5, Rockies 4.

Wild pitch, throwing error gives Padres 5-4 win

Rosario hit a two-run home run to help the Rockies (6-8) take a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Padres scored three runs on three consecutive hits in the fifth. Pinch-hitter Tommy Medica came off of the bench for an RBI double. Everth Cabrera added an RBI double and Alexi Amarista followed with an RBI triple.
The Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when two errors -- one by starting pitcher Eric Stults and another by the shortstop Cabrera -- led to an unearned run.
One inning later, the Rockies got three successive hits to start the inning, including an RBI single into left field by No. 8 hitter, DJ LeMahieu, for a 2-0 advantage.
Troy Tulowitzki had two hits as did leadoff hitter Charlie Blackmon, who entered the game hitting .488. Nolan Arenado also had two hits.
Colorado starting pitcher Jordan Lyles, staked to a 4-0 lead, allowed three runs in five innings with two walks and three strikeouts.
San Diego pitcher Eric Stults struggled with baserunners, allowing nine hits and two walks in five innings. He allowed four runs, three of which were earned, and essentially had traffic on the bases during his entire outing.
The Padres (6-7) had two on with one out in the first inning but Jedd Gyorko -- who earlier in the day agreed to a $35 million contract extension -- grounded into a double play.
Will Venable had two hits for the Padres, including a one-out triple in the seventh inning. But he was caught in a rundown on a Chris Denorfia ground ball.
