OAKLAND -- The Athletics have agreed to terms with left-handed pitcher Sean Doolittle on a new five-year contract for the 2014 through 2018 seasons. The agreement also includes club options for both the '19 and '20 seasons.
Doolittle, who was converted from a first baseman to pitcher late in the 2011 season, has flourished in his three seasons as a late-inning reliever for Oakland.

He has registered a 7-6 record and 3.10 ERA with four saves in 122 career appearances out of the bullpen, allowing 100 hits and striking out 129 batters with a 0.99 WHIP in 125 innings. Last season, he allowed only two of 32 inherited runners to score, which was the lowest percentage in Oakland history and the sixth best mark in Major League history since the statistic was kept dating back to 1974.
