SAN DIEGO -- Will Venable's two-run single in the 12th inning lifted the Padres to a 6-5 walk-off victory over the Royals on Monday night before a crowd of 14,089 at Petco Park.
Chris Denorfia had a single to start the 12th and later advanced to third base on a bloop double by Yonder Alonso. Venable then drove a ball to the gap in right-center field to win it.
Mike Moustakas had knocked in the go-ahead run with a single in the Royals' half of the 12th inning.
Salvador Perez doubled with one out, his third hit of the game, off Padres relief pitcher Tim Stauffer. Perez then scored when Moustakas lined a ball to right field.

It looked like the Royals had a good shot of going ahead in the 11th inning as well.
Lorenzo Cain led off with a double down the right-field line, his fourth hit of the game, off reliever Joaquin Benoit. Cain advanced to third base, but he was later thrown out at the plate by Alexi Amarista trying to score on Justin Maxwell's smash to third base.
Trailing 4-3 in the ninth, Jedd Gyorko connected for a game-tying home run off Royals closer Greg Holland. It was his third home run of the season and the second in the last three games.
Kansas City's Eric Hosmer, who knocked in three runs, had a tie-breaking home run in the seventh inning off of Nick Vincent for a 4-3 lead.
Before that, Royals rookie Yordano Ventura was in line for the victory. Ventura really only made one mistake in his sixth Major League start.
Ventura, who had a career-high 10 strikeouts, hung a 1-2 breaking ball to Yasmani Grandal in the sixth inning that turned into a three-run home run to right field to tie the game.
San Diego pitcher Eric Stults got a no-decision. He allowed three runs on 11 hits over 4 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.
This start comes on the heels of a 2 2/3 inning stint his last time out against the Giants on April 29.
Ventura allowed the three runs on five hits in six innings. He had no walks and of the 10 strikeouts, only one came on a fastball.
The Royals got an RBI single by Danny Valencia in the second inning, allowing Perez ample time to score after he started the inning with a double.
Then in the fifth inning, Stults allowed singles to Ventura -- for his first Major League hit -- and Nori Aoki. One out later, Hosmer rolled a two-run single up the middle for a 3-0 advantage.
