Toronto ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Skaggs spun eight-plus strong frames C.J. Cron clubbed his first big league homer and the LA Angels of Anaheim beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 Saturday at Rogers Centre.
Skaggs (3-1) struck out four while giving up just four hits and three runs -- two earned -- over his stellar outing. The Los Angeles left-hander started the ninth on the mound but was chased after serving up singles to Jose Reyes and Melky Cabrera.
 
Skaggs earns win, Cron homers, Angels top Blue Jays 5-3
 
Joe Smith entered from the bullpen and allowed a pair of RBI singles around an Edwin Encarnacion fielder's choice groundout that got the Blue Jays within 5-3.
However Smith escaped the jam and picked up his fourth save of the season by getting pinch-hitter Adam Lind to ground into a game-ending 1-6-3 double play.
Cron stroked a solo shot in the third inning and singled home a run in the second while Chris Iannetta smacked a two-run homer for the Angels who had lost two straight before taking the first two tilts of this four-game series.
Toronto starter J.A. Happ (1-1) lasted just 2 1/3 innings after giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk.
Jose Bautista scored once and also knocked in a run for the Blue Jays who have lost nine of their last 10 games against the Angels.
