PHOENIX -- A walk-off two-run home run by A.J. Pollock gave the D-backs a series-opening 7-5 win against the Padres on Monday at Chase Field.
Pollock's first career walk-off hit, a deep drive that landed on the concourse in center field and scored pinch-runner Ender Inciarte, came in the ninth inning after a back-and-forth game on Memorial Day.
The D-backs jumped out to an early lead thanks to a pair of Padres miscues in the second inning. A grounder from Cliff Pennington careened off Padres third baseman Chase Headley's glove and into the outfield, scoring Martin Prado.

However, center fielder Alexi Amarista misplayed the ball in center, allowing Cody Ross to score from first base.
D-backs starter Brandon McCarthy worked a quick third, but the 30-year-old right-hander labored in the fourth, giving up a solo home run to first baseman Yonder Alonso and a two-run shot to shortstop Everth Cabrera to give the Padres a 4-2 lead.
The D-backs battled back in the sixth, stringing together five straight hits in a three-run rally.
Pollock led off the inning with a base hit, and Gerardo Parra surprised the Padres with a bunt single. Paul Goldschmidt drove in Pollock to cut the lead to one.
Up next was Miguel Montero, who came into the game batting .103 in his last 10 games and was already 0-for-2, and he tied the game with a single of his own. Prado followed with a double off the left-field wall to give the D-backs a 5-4 lead and chase Padres starter Tyson Ross from the game.
But the one-run lead wasn't enough. Pinch-hitter Tommy Medica doubled to lead off the inning, chasing McCarthy. His replacement, Joe Thatcher, allowed Medica to score on a double by Cabrera, knotting the game until Pollock connected on his sixth home run of the season.
