CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Royals have signed DH/OF Raul Ibanez to a major-league contract for the minimum salary.
Ibanez, 42, was not long ago cut loose by the Angels after batting .157/.258/.265 in 57 games. He's coming off a 2013 season in which he hit 29 homers for the Mariners, and across parts of 19 big-league seasons Ibanez has 303 career homers and an OPS+ of 111.

While Ibanez is still theoretically capable of running into an opposite-hand fastball every now and then, he seems likely to play a very limited role in Kansas City. He can't play the field anymore, so perhaps he'll occasionally spell DH Billy Butler against right-handers and otherwise serve as a lefty bat off the bench.
