The Blue Jays have designated relief pitcher Sergio Santos for assignment, the club announced Monday. As a corresponding move, left-handed reliever Rob Rasmussen was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo.
Santos, 31, is 0-2 with a 7.78 ERA, 2.09 WHIP and 26 strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings this season. He's walked 17 and has three blown saves against five saves.

After a horrendous start to the season, Santos came back from a forearm injury to post six straight scoreless outings from June 17-27. Since then, though, he's allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and four walks in 2 1/3 innings.
Santos was acquired by the Blue Jays from the White Sox for prospect Nestor Molina in a 2011 Winter Meetings trade. He was very good for Toronto in 2013 when healthy, but injuries plagued his tenure in Toronto. Shoulder surgery ended his 2012 season before May and his recovery -- in addition to other arm issues -- limited him to just 29 outings last season.
