ANAHEIM -- Behind Efren Navarro's two RBIs and seven strong innings from Matt Shoemaker, the Angels beat Detroit, 4-0, on Saturday night at Angel Stadium.
With the win, the Angels (62-41) remained two games behind Oakland for the division lead. The Tigers (57-44), meanwhile, have lost nine of their last 10 games in Anaheim.
Shoemaker sparkled on Saturday night, yielding just three hits and walking none while throwing just 78 pitches.

Navarro's first HR backs dominant Shoemaker

After Ian Kinsler's one-out double in the first inning, Shoemaker allowed only two more baserunners. No Tigers reached second base in Shoemaker's final six innings.
Navarro continued his recent hot streak with his first Major League home run, a solo shot to right in the second inning off Tigers starter Justin Verlander. Navarro also had an RBI groundout in the sixth inning.
Albert Pujols doubled to lead off the sixth and moved over on Erick Aybar's sacrifice bunt. Aybar became just the second No. 4 batter this season to lay down a sacrifice bunt, joining Milwaukee's Carlos Gomez. He also became the first Angels cleanup starter with a sacrifice since Scott Spiezio in 2001.
After Howie Kendrick walked, Navarro grounded out to short to score Pujols. Kendrick was running on the pitch and the Angels avoided a potential double play with a timely hit-and-run. C.J. Cron followed with a double down the right-field line to bring in Kendrick.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus was ejected in the third inning after arguing an overturned call at first base. With one out, Shoemaker snapped a quick pickoff throw to first base and caught Eugenio Suarez leaning as Pujols applied the tag before Suarez got back to first.
Ausmus raced out of the dugout to argue the review and was promptly ejected.
Following Kinsler's double in the first, Shoemaker faced the minimum 16 batters in the next 5 1/3 innings before Austin Jackson's two-out single in the sixth.
