HOUSTON -- For all of their scuffles driving in runners in scoring position and stringing together extended rallies, the Astros have proven to be quite proficient in the long ball this season.
The Astros began play Monday ranked third in the American League with 109 homers, just two ahead of the A's. They added to that total with an impressive power display, bashing four homers, including

three in a four-run sixth inning that allowed them to pull away for a 7-3 win over the A's at Minute Maid Park.
Marc Krauss followed Jason Castro's tiebreaking, two-run homer in the sixth with his fifth of the season, marking only the second time this year the club has gone back-to-back. Matt Dominguez homered to left one out later to push the Astros' lead to 7-3.
The run support was welcomed by Astros left-hander Brett Oberholtzer, who won for the first time in a span of five Major League starts to improve to 3-7. He held the A's to three runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Chris Carter's three-run homer in the third inning -- his eighth in July -- gave the Astros a 3-2 lead. The A's tied the game in the fifth on an RBI double by Stephen Vogt.
Carter drew a one-out walk in the sixth, one batter before Castro started the homer barrage that chased A's starter Jesse Chavez (8-7).
The four homers by the Astros traveled a total of 1,656 feet.
