MILWAUKEE -- Gerardo Parra didn't waste any time endearing himself to Milwaukee fans in his first home game on Tuesday night.
Parra, acquired by the Brewers on the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, belted a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning to help lift the Brewers to a 4-3 victory over the Giants at Miller Park. Parra later made a sliding catch in foul territory to record an important out that helped squash a Giants' rally in the eighth inning.

Parra's first Brewers blast helps sink Giants 4-3

It was Parra's first hit in a Brewers uniform and an important one as they held onto their slim lead in the National League Central race.
The first-pitch, two-out blast came after a strong effort from rookie right-hander Jimmy Nelson, who earned his third straight quality start. Nelson sailed through six of his seven innings, but he paid for his one big mistake, a three-run home run by Pablo Sandoval that tied the game at 3.
But Parra's home run -- along with three earlier RBIs by Carlos Gomez -- delivered the Brewers to a victory in the opener of a tough six-game homestand.
Milwaukee started the scoring in the third inning, when Nelson knocked his second professional hit into right field with two outs. Gomez followed with a first-pitch two-run home run to left field. Prior to the home run, Gomez had had three hits and 14 strikeouts over his last 32 at-bats.
Gomez struck again in the fifth when he came to the plate with two outs and Rickie Weeks on second base. Weeks advanced on a Tim Lincecum wild pitch, and Gomez scored him with a perfectly placed bunt.
But the lead evaporated after Nelson allowed back-to-back hits to Joe Panik and Brandon Belt to start off the sixth. Sandoval followed with a towering game-tying home run to right field.
The Brewers left the bases loaded in the sixth, but Parra lifted the offense with the go-ahead shot in the seventh. Jeremy Jeffress came on with one out in the eighth, and after issuing a pair of walks, he escaped a jam, thanks to Parra's big catch and a strikeout of Buster Posey to end the threat.
The Giants had one on with two outs in the ninth against closer Francisco Rodriguez, when Panik was ruled safe on a grounder to second. But the Brewers challenged the call and it was overturned to end the game.
