The Nationals on Monday signed veteran outfielder Nate Schierholtz to a minor-league contract. As Mark Zuckerman tweets, Schierholtz may be in line to be recalled once the rosters expand in September.The left-handed-hitting Schierholtz, 30, batted .192/.240/.300 in 341 in plate appearances for the Cubs this season before being designated for assignment. 
From 2011-13, however, Schierholtz put up an OPS+ of 109, so he does have history of being productive in his recent past. Last season, he hit 21 homers in 137 games for the Cubs.For his career, Schierholtz owns a slash line of .254/.303/.406 across parts of eight big-league season. He's manned all three outfield positions as recently as 2012 and still has the ability to be a defensive asset at the corners.Dayn Perry/CBS Sports
