SAN FRANCISCO -- Status update on Buster Posey's recent hot streak: alive and very, very well.
The star catcher went 5-for-5 with three RBIs to record the second five-hit game of his career Friday night as the Giants shellacked the Brewers, 13-2, inside AT&T Park. The baker's dozen in runs were a season high, and their 19 hits were just shy of their season high of 20.
With the win, the Giants leapfrogged the Cardinals by a half-game for sole possession of the National League's first Wild Card spot.

Giants romp past Brewers into Wild Card lead

In his last nine games, Posey's raised his average 19 points to .297. The last time he eclipsed the .300 mark? May 11. A seventh-inning substitution prevented him from getting the chance to reach .300 again Friday, but plenty of damage had already been done, since his recent torrid pace became contagious.
Joe Panik tied a career high with four hits, Angel Pagan went 3-for-5, Hunter Pence was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Gregor Blanco blasted a home run atop Levi's Landing for a second consecutive game. Every starter had three plate appearances through the game's first four innings.
Much of the damage was inflicted against Wily Peralta, who was tagged for only one run (unearned) in his early-August start against the Giants. That script was flipped at China Basin, though, as he surrendered six earned runs on nine hits in just three innings.
The outburst was plenty of support for starter Ryan Vogelsong, who saw a 5-0 lead in his last outing disappear. He was impressive Friday, as he struck out seven and allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings. He joined the home team's party in the batter's box, too. He knocked a single into the right-field corner in the second and scored later in the inning.
The Brewers scored their first run on a Lyle Overbay groundout in the second and they added a second in the fifth on a Carlos Gomez sacrifice fly.
With the win, the Giants have won six of their last seven home games and improved to 8-3 in their last 11.
