NEW YORK -- The Mets may be out of playoff contention, but they're not done fighting. Wilmer Flores hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the ninth inning Monday, leading the Mets to a 3-2 win over the Rockies at Citi Field.
Trailing by a run entering the ninth against former teammate LaTroy Hawkins, Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a leadoff double. Curtis Granderson followed with an RBI triple, giving Flores the opportunity to lift a fly ball just deep enough to score him.

Mets rally in ninth to walk off against Rockies

Jon Niese gave the Mets his best start since returning from the disabled list in mid-July, but Vic Black -- facing his first batter since returning from the DL himself -- gave up a go-ahead homer to Nolan Arenado in the eighth.
Niese, who came into the game with a 4.97 ERA in nine starts since returning from the DL with a left shoulder strain, struck out seven over 6 2/3 innings. But the solo homer he gave up to Michael Cuddyer in the second inning ensured that he would leave with a no-decision.
That was because over the game's first six innings, Rockies starter Jordan Lyles matched him pitch for pitch. After giving up an RBI double to Lucas Duda in the first, Lyles allowed just two more hits -- David Wright's first triple of the season in the third inning and Juan Lagares' double in the fifth. He and two relievers combined to mow down 10 straight Mets from the fifth through eighth innings, taking advantage of an offense that came into the night with the league's 24th-highest on-base percentage and 29th-highest slugging mark.
