Willie McCovey hospitalized with complications from infection
 
Giants Hall of Famer Willie McCovey was hospitalized last week for complications stemming from an infection. He is being treated at a local hospital and his recovery is progressing every day. The Giants remain in close contact with Willie and his family and urge all fans to keep Willie in their thoughts as he recovers. McCovey, 76, spent 22 years in MLB from 1959-80, including parts of 19 seasons with the Giants. He retired as a career .270/.374/.515 (147 OPS+) hitter with 521 home runs and 1,555 RBI.
During his peak from 1968-70, McCovey hit .300/.425/.603 (188 OPS+) while averaging 40 home runs per year. He led the league in homers in 1963 (44 HR), 1968 (36) and 1969 (45).
