The Mets and general manager Sandy Alderson have agreed to a three-year contract extension, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
Alderson, 66, originally signed a four-year deal prior to the 2010 season with an option for the 2015 season. Instead of simply picking up the option, the Mets have decided to re-up with Alderson for three years, which will cover 2015-17.

In Alderson's four seasons, the Mets have gone 77-85, 74-88, 74-88 and are currently 76-80. It might not seem like much progress, but the young pitching staff he's assembled makes them a decent pick to emerge as a contender in 2015. Matt Harvey will rejoin a rotation that features Rookie of the Year candidate Jacob deGrom along with Zack Wheeler and possibly top prospect Noah Syndergaard.
On the flip-side, Alderson hasn't had great success with free agent signings.
Overall, should the Mets lose two more games this season, they'll have a losing record for the sixth straight season.
As for manager Terry Collins, as Heyman has reported in recent weeks, he'll be back in 2015.
