The Rangers are hiring former Texas great Michael Young for a front-office role along the lines of special assistant to the general manager, sources said.
Young has been assisting the team's search for a manager, and the front office is said to be extremely impressed with Young's executive work already.
General manager Jon Daniels acknowledged talks have been ongoing with Young about his role after CBSSports.com reported Wednesday via Twitter that he was about to be hired.

The main thing left to be ironed out is how Young, a family man who left the game when teams still sought his services to spend more time with his family, will fit his new job into his life.
Young was seen as a managerial candidate, but Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reported that those discussions morphed into talks about an executive role instead. Young always has been highly respected as a leader and is a big name in the Rangers community after an excellent playing career. Though he had rocky moments with the front office following his two positional switches, it says something about all involved that they've been able to put it behind them.
Interim manager Tim Bogar has been seen as a favorite to keep the job, but Steve Buechele and Mike Maddux are among other candidates on a short list.
