The Twins on Monday announced the hiring of Paul Molitor as manager. He's been signed to a three-year contract that will run through the 2017 season.
Molitor, 58, is best known as a Hall of Fame hitter who tallied 3,319 hits across a big-league career that spanned parts of 21 seasons. Three of those seasons Molitor spent with the Twins. As well, he's a St. Paul native who was drafted out of the University of Minnesota.

Molitor has no previous managerial experience, but he served as a Twins coach in 2014. Prior to this past season, he served as the Twins minor league baserunning/infield coordinator for 10 seasons (2003, 2005-13). He was also the Mariners' hitting coach in 2004 and Twins bench coach from 2000-01.
Molitor will be formally introduced as Twins manager on Tuesday. He of course replaces Ron Gardenhire, who managed the Twins for 13 full seasons.
