LOS ANGELES -- New Dodgers management continued to bolster the pitching staff Monday by acquiring right-handed pitcher Juan Nicasio from the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named or cash considerations.
To make room for Nicasio on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated for assignment infielder Ryan Jackson, who was acquired three weeks ago off waivers from San Diego.

Rockies trade Juan Nicasio to Dodgers

The 28-year-old Nicasio was 6-6 with a 5.38 ERA in 33 games (14 starts) for the Rockies last season, his fourth in the big leagues. During the second half of the season, Nicasio appeared exclusively out of the bullpen and posted a 3.48 ERA in 19 games, including a stretch in September when he allowed just one run in nine games.

In his career at Dodger Stadium, the right-hander is 2-2 with a 3.63 ERA and a .244 opponents' batting average in seven games (six starts).
The deal for Nicasio comes two days after the Dodgers obtained right-hander Mike Bolsinger from Arizona and four days after the Dodgers traded for relievers Joel Peralta and Adam Liberatore from Tampa Bay.
Among offseason priorities expressed by president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman are starting and setup depth. His new management team has added three pitchers that appeared in the Major Leagues last year (Nicasio, Peralta and Bolsinger). Nicasio could be used in either role, but with Peralta strictly a reliever, Nicasio figures to be a fifth starter or long man.
There are nine pitchers that appeared for the Dodgers this year that do not figure to pitch for them in 2015 (Josh Beckett, Chad Billingsley, Scott Elbert, Paul Maholm, Chris Perez, Jamey Wright, Roberto Hernandez, Kevin Correia and Jose Dominguez).
The farm system is not expected to provide much big league ready help, as Zach Lee and Chris Reed were the only pitchers protected last week from the Rule 5 Draft, and neither is a lock to make the Opening Day roster.
