Members of the Major League Baseball Players Association have "overwhelmingly confirmed" Tony Clark as its new executive director through an anonymous vote, the union announced. He was elected back in December and now it is official."I am honored to receive the support of the general membership in confirming my appointment as executive director," said Clark in a statement. "I look forward to working on behalf of the fraternity of all Players, and to building on Michael's vision and the proud traditions and accomplished history of the Player's Association." 
Clark, 41, was named the MLBPA's deputy executive director in July. The position was created in case former chief Michael Weiner was unable to continue working during his bout with cancer. Weiner passed away in November.
Clark is the sixth executive director in MLBPA history and the first former player to hold the position. He will oversee all day-to-day aspects of the union's operations, including labor relations and business matters.
In parts of 15 big league seasons, Clark hit .262/.339/.485 (112 OPS+) with 251 home runs. He was an All-Star in 2001 and finished third in the 1996 AL Rookie of the Year voting. Clark played for the Tigers, Red Sox, Mets, Yankees, Diamondbacks and Padres.
